ODUBU

Edo State Deputy Governor is a regular visitor to Banex Plaza located in Wuse 2 in Abuja. He visits an optician every month religiously and the optician is a lady. Whenever he comes, his convoy of between seven to eight cars always disrupts the already noisy plaza given the fact that there is already congestion with little or no packing space in the Plaza.

He was there a few days ago and he came with a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Edo in the last dispensation. Owners of shops in new Banex Plaza have been taking the visit in their stride but soon it could become an issue as the Deputy Governor’s convoy cars usually takes over all the packing space available and the presence of his security aides is not one thing the shoppers are used to.

Meanwhile tongues have continued to wag over how many cars he has to use officially and why he has to travel with all of them despite the cash crunch most state governments are facing now. Fuelling eight jeeps from Edo State down to Abuja every month is definitely not one of the best ways to cut costs.

The Edo state deputy Governor is one of the front runners in the contest to succeed the incumbent governor who is his boss, even though they have been at loggerheads since he started his campaign as he has been described as the candidate to beat which has made the governor uncomfortable.’ If as a Deputy Governor he comes to Abuja with eight cars, only God knows how many he would come with as a Governor’, an infuriated office owner in Banex Plaza wondered when confronted with the fact that Odubu might be the next Governor of Edo state.
