The suspect, who is in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), has been a long-time friend of the deceased whose body was found in a hotel room in Togo where he had gone to buy a car.

Mohammed, who was a car dealer and based in Suleja, had four children. The last time he called was in October at Seme in Benin Republic while heading to Cotonou.

He had called his client to send the money to buy the car into the suspect’s bank account. Mohammed also called back to confirm that the money had been received by the suspect.

When he did not get the type of car the client needed, he left for Togo with a friend of the suspect, who is now at large. In Togo, they reportedly booked into the same hotel room under the name of Dauda Mohammed, a Nigerian.

However, several days later, the client did not see Mohammed or the car. He started making enquiries. It was later disclosed that Mohammed’s body was found in a mortuary in Togo.

It was also gathered that he was stabbed to death in the hotel room by unknown person the night he arrived in Togo. The suspect was arrested in Lagos last Thursday by the police.

It was learnt that after Musa’s bank account was frozen and he could not access his account, he went to the bank for clarification which led to his arrest. He confirmed to have received the N2,350,000.

When contacted, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bala Elkana, said the police were investigating a case of fraud. The PPRO said money was sent to somebody’s account but he did not remit it to the owner.

According to him, the investigation is not a homicide case. Elkana added that it was an INTERPOL issue. According to him, until the embassy receives a report of established murder case against a Nigerian before the police can act.
