images-17The startling absence of Barrister Solomon Dalung, the minister of Sports and Youth development, at the just concluded Okpekpe 10km road race in Edo state, has been greeted with extreme repugnance by Governor Adams Oshiomhole. Speaking shortly after the 4th edition of the race held in Okpekpe, Edo state on Saturday, May 7, Governor Oshiomhole said it was “shameful” that the minister is not showing much commitment to the development of sports in the country, Vanguard reports.

According to him, it is surprising that a minister could be absent at a grass-roots event such as the 4th Okpekpe 10km road race when he was duly invited. Nigerians in rural areas are the forgotten majority, the minister must not sit in the comfort of an office and sermonise sports. “We must live by example, that’s why I came to show that when those young men are running, we elders can run too.”
