Sixteen prospective corps members from Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, have reportedly lost their lives in a ghastly road accident while travelling to the NYSC orientation camp in Gombe State.
Two others from the same institution were critically injured.
The students were said to be in an 18-seater bus heading to camp when tragedy struck, abruptly ending the dreams of the young Nigerians who were preparing to begin their national service.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash, evacuating the bodies and rushing the injured survivors to the hospital for urgent treatment.
As of now, authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the accident.
The heartbreaking incident has thrown AFUED into deep mourning. Staff, students, and family members have been left shattered, describing the loss as a heavy blow not only to the institution but to the nation.
Reacting to the tragedy, an X user, DukeofBourdillion, expressed grief and frustration over the recurring loss of young Nigerians to avoidable road accidents. He wrote:

This wave of needless tragedy is becoming unbearable. It is high time the Federal Government intervened decisively to stem the relentless loss of innocent lives on our roads.
