The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested an 18-year-old student for attempting to kidnap the provost of the College of Fisheries, New Bussa.
On Wednesday, the NSCDC’s spokesman in Niger, Nasir Abdullahi, said in a statement that the student was arrested on August 10.
The NSCDC said the student conspired with another person, now at large, to write a letter threatening to kidnap the provost if he failed to pay a ransom.
Mr Nasir, however, said the suspect did not demand any particular amount before NSCDC operatives arrested him.
The spokesman added that the student had been arraigned before a chief magistrates court on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and intimidation.
