Two nursing mothers have been detained by a private hospital in Warri, Delta State for their inability to settle their medical bills. Investigation revealed that the women, who are now crying for help, were delivered of their babies through normal delivery, but have not been able to settle their bills.
Sources said their jobless husbands had deserted them. It was learnt that one of the women lost her baby as she could not afford the needed medication for the baby while the other woman is still nursing her baby in the hospital.
It was also learnt that the management of the hospital ignored the pleas from the women to allow them to go on humanitarian grounds.
Although the women were not allowed to speak to the press, those close to them said they could not feed themselves and the surviving baby.
The hospital located on the popular Jakpa Road in Uvwie Local Government Area was said to be generous to people in such situation, but the economic recession has affected its fortunes.
Attempt to speak with the hospital’s management failed as our correspondent was not allowed into the premises.
