96-YR OLD WOMAN DISCOVERED INSIDE PIT TOILET DAYS AFTER SHE WAS DECLARED MISSING IN KANO

The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of a 96-year-old woman, Habiba Ado, who accidentally fell into a toilet pit in Sarai village, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.

According to the spokesperson of the service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the agency received a distress call around 9:27 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from a man named Usman Adamu.

“The Kano State Fire Service under the leadership of the Director, Alh. Sani Anas, the Emergency Response Unit of the agency received a distress call from Usman Adamu, reporting the tragedy of a woman falling into a toilet pit (suckaway) in Sarai village in Dawakin Kudu local government area,” part of the statement reads.

A rescue team was immediately sent to the scene. On arrival, they found that the woman had already died.

Her relatives told officials that she had been missing for four days and was mentally ill.

The team recovered her body from the pit and handed it over to the ward head, Musa Muhammad. The family and community were advised to cover open pits to avoid similar tragedies.
