public servant in Makurdi, Benue State, Mr. Emmanuel Okore, yesterday asked a Makurdi Upper Area Court II to dissolve his marriage to his wife, Sarah Momoh, over “her naked midnight prayers” against him.

The plaintiff told the court not to waste time in dissolving his marriage as his wife had threatened to make him mad if divorced her.

Okore told the court that they got married in 2014 and the marriage had been blessed with a boy, saying his life was no longer safe as long as he continued to stay with her.

He said: “My wife prays at midnight naked, saying that I will not see a good thing in life. There was even a time that she attempted to stab me with a knife.”

Okore disclosed that he overheard a nurse tell his wife when they went for antenatal that his wife did not contract HIV from him.

He said Sarah later claimed she was not HIV positive when he confronted her over the issue.

Okore said that he left their house in 2016 when the situation became unbearable, and told the court to dissolve their marriage.

The plaintiff also prayed the court to grant him custody of their only son.

However, the respondent, Sarah, said that although she did not oppose divorce, she wanted the custody of her child since he (the boy) had health challenges.

The magistrate, Rose Iyorshe, adjourned the case till January 13, 2020 for hearing and defence
