AGAIN ISWAP AMBUSHES NIGERIA ARMY CONVOY IN BORNO SEIZE MULTI-MILILION DOLLAR NEW MILITARY HARDWARE INCLUDING TANKS, MRAPs

Islamic State West Africa Province(ISWAP) terrorists have staged an audacious multi-pronged attack targeting a military convoy and base in the Mainok area of Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.

Mainok, the main town of Kaga Local Government area is about 60 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.

The insurgents who came  in multiple gun trucks and  Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs), ambushed a military convoy delivering newly acquired MRAPs to the theatre of operations on Sunday, April 25.

The reuse of military equipment to ambush and attack troops in the Northeast is a common occurrence.

The insurgents were believed to have also carted away some of the new MRAPs. Sunday’s day time attack led to the death of a Lieutenant Colonel and soldiers.

HumAngle understands that the Nigerian Air Force combat aircraft dispatched to the site of the ambush along Maiduguri – Damaturu road accidentally unleashed fire on troops and may have contributed to the casualties.

Nigerian troops and the insurgents were wearing similar fatigue and using similar vehicles. This was  believed  to have led to the unfortunate incident between air and ground forces.

It also allowed the ISWAP fighters  to trick the troops at the base in Mainok before opening fire and overrunning the base.

The local police outpost was also destroyed during the attack.
