Garus Gololo, a prominent figure in the All Progressive Congress (APC), has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing political turmoil in Benue State. Gololo urged the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, to rein in his political allies and allow Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia to focus on delivering democratic dividends to the people. Addressing the press in Kaduna, Gololo claimed that the root cause of the crisis was Akume’s younger wife’s ambition to become the Speaker of the Benue House of Assembly (HoA), as reported by Punch newspaper.
Gololo emphasized that Governor Alia had resisted the aspiration of Akume’s wife, Becky, to lead the state assembly. He accused Akume of instigating the crisis for personal gain and urged President Tinubu to mediate before the situation escalated.
The APC Chieftain stated, “The whole crisis started when Akume’s younger wife wanted to become the Speaker of the Benue House of Assembly, and the governor said no! The wife, Becky, was the former Chairman of Gboko LGA. She was also Akume’s Secretary when he was the Minister, and now, he wants her to be the Speaker. Even if I were the one, I would say no.”
Gololo stressed the need for Akume to respect the governor’s tenure and refrain from asserting himself as Alia’s godfather, emphasizing that political positions should not be hereditary.
