In a world where leaders see themselves as sui generis, answerable to no one, not even God, when, you see humble ones, who see power as trust placed on them to help their communities they are worth celebrating.
Hon Terseer Ugbor is undoubtedly one of those few who were described in Memoirs of Chevalier Dion as being odd for standing on their feet, when all others were standing on their heads and felt nothing wrong.
He has only been in the National Assembly for two years, but for the people of his constituency, the Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency of Benue State, it’s like ages.
Not only has he been initiating community-based projects aimed at bringing succour to his people, his various moves in empowering them, helping many to stand on their feet, rather than sharing peanuts which was the trend in the past has further shown that the attitude of leaders matter.
Humble to a fault, Hon Ugbor’s willingness to listen has endeared him to both followers and even leaders who see in him a shinning star they can trust with high and maybe higher posts.
Born 44 years ago, Hon. Terseer Ugbor has clearly become a major source of support for indigent people in his Constituency. At a time when Benue State is engulfed in crisis over failure of state apparatus to rise to the occasion of herdsmen and invaders visiting terror on the people, he has provided a shoulder to lean on, while also standing as a major advocate of the downtrodden.
His programmes for his constituents have been more pronounced in the area of education where he has provided scholarships running into millions of Naira for many. There were also those he gave laptops to in order to help their academic and other needs, promising to increase the number to 100. He has built schools, sunk boreholes, put structures in place to help combat the menacing herdsmen who have held his people captive and virtually made life miserable for farming communities.
He didn’t stop at this. He has been involved in empowering youths and people of the Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency of Benue. He has also lent his voice in advocacy at every level so that the carnage in his Constituency would stop, so much so that even before his first term expires they are already clamouring for him to stay put in the green chamber and do more for them.
Unlike many others whose representation is only as bench warmers, Hon. Terseer Ugbor has been at the vanguard of contributions on the floor of the House.
As he clocks 44 this month, we cannot but celebrate him and wish him many more years in service to humanity.
