…..Lawmakers to meet FERMA over bad roads.
The deplorable conditions of some Federal and State roads in Akoko area of Ondo State are now a source of worries as many Motorists and travellers are stranded over the weekend.
Some of the roads in bad state are; Ikare-Ogbagi-Irun-Akoko to Ado Ekiti road; Ikare-Arigidi-Imo-Ikaram Akoko road and Kabba-Auga-Isua-Ifira-Idoani road.
It will be recalled that former Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s administration flagged off and started the construction of Ikare-Arigidi-Imo-Ikaram Akoko but it was later abandoned till date, despite many protests by residents and travellers on the route.
Deliberating on the bad condition of Ikare-Ogbagi-Irun-Akoko during last Thursday’s plenary session in Akure which was presided over by the Speaker of the Ondo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Olamide Oladiji, urged the federal government to intervene on the bad roads in the interest of the people.
Speaking on matters of urgent public importance, the Lawmakers expressed displeasure over the deplorable conditions of the Ikare/Ogbagi/Irun Akoko/Ado Ekiti roads in Akoko Area of the State.
The House Majority leader, Hon.Olatunji Oshati, described the poor condition of the road as a serious threat to lives and property.
Adding his voice, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Gbegudu Ololade, observed that if the roads are not urgently fixed, it may affect the economic growth of the State as a whole.
Sympathizing with the road users, he called on relevant authorities to respond to the plight of the road users.
In his contribution, the lawmaker representing Akoko North West 2, Hon. (Barr) Afe Felix, expressed concern over the terrible condition of the roads, saying that the roads had long been abandoned.
In its resolutions, the Assembly appealed to the Minister of Works, David Umahi and the Director General of Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FEMA) to urgently attend to the roads.
The House also directed the House Committee on Works and Infrastructure to liaise with FERMA and report back to the House within a stipulated time.
