TROUBLE IN EFCC AS OFFICERS ARE RECALLED OVER WHO CLAIMED 10 MILLION NAIRA WAS EXTORTED FROM HIM

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has started a full investigation after Nigerian rapper, Oladipupo Oladimeji, known as Oladips, accused some of its officers of collecting ₦10 million from him during his detention in 2024.

Oladips recently spoke on the Trending podcast. He said EFCC operatives picked him up during a late-night raid at his Lagos home in November 2024. According to him, he was held for five days and was only released after he paid ₦10 million, even though nothing illegal was found on him.

“They collected money (₦10 million) from me before they released me. They didn’t find anything on me. So, what was the money for? What was all that stress and suffering for? It’s just Nigeria. Nigeria just happened to me,” he said.

Reacting to his claims, the EFCC shared a statement on its official X page on Saturday, saying it was taking the issue very seriously and already acting on it.

“The Commission wishes to state unreservedly that the grim picture painted by the artiste does not reflect the true character of the EFCC,” the statement said.

“We have seen his claims and have commenced investigations accordingly. Officers in the team that handled his case have been summoned to the Corporate Headquarters of the Commission and relieved of their operational duties pending the conclusion of investigations.”

The EFCC added that it remains committed to truth and fairness and will not spare any officer found guilty.

“The Commission is serious about its value of integrity and will take necessary action against any staff found to be culpable. It is also needful to state that if the allegation is found to be false and raised to malign the Commission or tarnish its image, appropriate sanctions will also be imposed,” it noted.

The agency asked Nigerians to remain calm while it completes the investigation, promising it will continue to fight corruption and uphold transparency.
