The notice was signed electronically by the following members: Hon Jide Oguntodu (Akure South 1), Hon Temitope Akomolafe (Ifedore), Hon Fatai Atere (Akoko North/West 1), Hon Toyin Japhet (Akoko North East), Hon Raymond Daodu (Akoko South West 1), Hon Samuel Ifabiyi (Odigbo 1), Hon Babatunde Fasonu (Odigbo 2), Hon (Princess) Oluwatosin Ogunlowo (Idanre), Hon Afe Felix (Akoko North/West 2), Hon Nelson Akinsuroju (Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo), Rt. Hon (Prince) Akinruntan Abayomi (Ilaje 1), and Hon Stephen Abitogun (Akure South 2)
The Speaker is accused of having “committed acts constituting gross misconduct,” including: “Diversion of the sum of Fifty Million Naira (₦50,000,000.00) lawfully appropriated for the conduct of a public hearing; Misappropriation of monthly operational grants of the House.”
The lawmakers stated that the alleged acts “contravene the following applicable provisions of law”: Paragraph 9, Part I, Fifth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution on prohibition of abuse of office; the Seventh Schedule relating to violation of the Oath of Office and Oath of Allegiance; Section 19 of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act on abuse of office; and Section 390 of the Criminal Code Act on stealing by a public officer.
They further argued that “the said infractions amount to gross misconduct within the meaning ascribed by Section 188(11) of the Constitution… and have gravely impaired the institutional integrity and lawful operations of the House.”
Citing Section 92(4)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, the lawmakers resolved that “a Vote of No Confidence be and is hereby passed upon Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji.”
They also directed that “the said Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji be invited by the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC); for immediate investigation, prosecution (where applicable), and recovery of all misappropriated public funds.”
