The Presidency came out this morning to announce the death of Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari.
It is assumed that he died of Coronavirus complications.
The news of his demise was broken by Femi Adesina, Presidential spokesman.
He said, “The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari.
“The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020.
“Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly.”
Now, stories concerning Abba Kyari’s death was all over the social media weeks back after controversial journalist, Kemi Olunloyo claimed that a top official of Buhari administration had died of Coronavirus.
The Presidency shot the story down and even denied letters purportedly written to announce a successor.
Femi Adesina did not tell Nigerians that Coronavirus killed the late Abba Kyari at an earlier date. Kyari, who was de facto President of Nigeria while alive, was indeed a controversial man, so much so that he was fingered as being the one who waged wars against Osinbajo, while the National Security Adviser also accused him via a memo of usurping his post and that of the President.
The President’s wife was another for who waged war against him claiming that he usurped her husband’s powers.
Nigerians of various backgrounds have their own picture of the late Chief of Staff.
His death and late night announcement has not in any way diminished the fact that Coronavirus has struck at the very heart of the BUHARI administration.
It is also instructive to note that death has again visited the Villa as it did many times in the past, taking away, leaders of the government or their spouse.
Coronavirus has indeed proven to be a leveller.
