ABUJA POLICEMEN ABDUCT TWO BROTHERS FROM THEIR HOME, DROVE THEM TO NASARAWA, EXTORTED 510,000 FROM THEM, THEN DUMP THEM THERE

Nnamdi and Tochukwu Basil, brothers who live in the Apo Resettlement Zone B area of Abuja, have narrated to FIJ how policemen robbed them of N510,000 on Monday.

Speaking on their behalf, Tochukwu said the brothers were at home when the policemen arrived at about 4 pm.

He said they arrived in two black vehicles, one with two policemen and the other with four.

“One officer flashed me an ID card but did not give me a chance to read his name off it before tucking it away,” Tochukwu said.

“The men wore mufti but had police-branded bulletproof vests on, so I could not see a nametag or any unique identifiers to know their names. All we knew was that they were policemen.”

He said the policemen asked him for his profession. When he responded by saying they were students, the police accused them of being fraudsters.

They were hurled into the back of one of the vehicles and driven away.

Tochukwu remembers they drove for a while before arriving in Maraba, Nasarawa State.

“One of them noticed that my younger brother was scared, so they started asking him to give them N10 million before they left us, or they would take us to the EFCC office,” Tochukwu added.

“I was confused. That was when one of them started asking for N500,000 from my brother.”

Tochukwu stayed back in the vehicle and was able to get the picture of one of the policemen who was driving the vehicle he was in.

When Nnamdi returned to the vehicle, he revealed to Tochukwu that the police had made him transfer N510,000 to a PoS merchant.

Then, both men were kicked out of the vehicle and told to find their way back home.

On Tuesday, the men called the Complaints Response Unit (CRU), but no one responded.

On Wednesday, FIJ called the CRU and Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Abuja Police Command, but neither answered the phone. They had not yet responded at press time.
