Trouble that may catapult into an industrial action is brewing among the rank and file of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as aggrieved staff of the para-military Agency are spoiling for war over what they termed as unfair treatment by their management.

THE sweeping allegations of illegal withholding back log of salaries and allowances levelled against the present management under Abdullahi Muhammadu Gana, may split the NSCDC unless urgent step is quickly taken to address the situation.

Investigation by Paparazzi Magazine indicates that personnel of the organization that were promoted over 17 months ago are yet to enjoy the expected upward monetary adjustment and  implementation of same, to reflect on their new salaries scale, up till the time of writing this report. Our sources say the affected staff have not been given any cogent reasons for the persistence of the abnormality for close to two years after they were promoted.

However, a source hinted to our reporter that the illegality was being perpetrated because of the alleged inherent corrupt practices in the establishment, especially by the top echelon of the service.

Paparazzi Magazine check also revealed that the more than 3000 new recruits employed into the service this year under what the service called replacement exercise were given preferential treatment over old and experienced staff as management started paying them full salary right from training which is unusual. Our reporter also gathered that the new recruits have not been issued appointment letters which is not a normal case in NSCDC, NIS AND NPS and this they insist points to foul play.

Paparazzi investigations further revealed that before now, the old recruits used to receive a “shift allowance”; but without any explanation, our source says, none has been paid to the aggrieved workers in this new dispensation.

Reacting, one of them explained:  “What pains me most is that other organisations like Nigerian Immigration, Prisons and Customs are receiving these allowances. Why must NSCDC personnel be denied? Are we not all under the same Ministry of Interior? He queried.

Besides the above, there are other allegations of monstrous irregularities in the organisation as promotion of some staff not based on merit but “who you know and godfatherism” a senior officer revealed to our reporter on condition of anonymity

Further investigation by Paparazzi reveal that it has been complaints galore by majority of NSCDC personnel; stories of gross cheating and fraud rented the air like a recurrent negative decimal in the organization, a situation which has led many of the staff to call for a comprehensive overhaul of the NSCDC. They averred that with the appointment of the new CG and his unpopular management style, they don’t see him making any positive change. Many describe the CG as an old wine in a new bottle who is not expected to bring in anything new.

As it is, the die is cast as personnel are spoiling for war with the management if urgent action is not taken to give them their due.

Recall that since last year, President Buhari directed the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, OAGF, to ensure that payment of salaries and allowances of Federal Workers are paid by the 24th or 25th of every month. The president also urged him to ensure that other benefits such as promotion arrears among other allowances were settled in good time. Calls placed to the C.G by this magazine on the strength of these allegations were not answered nor returned and questions sent to his phone via SMS text were also not replied.

Paparazzi will follow up on this story as the embittered staff are pleading with Nigerians to come to their aid.
