Ogun state police officers have rescued Promise Udeh, aged just 10, who was chained up by her aunt in Adigbe area of Abeokuta on Friday, July 29.
According to Abimbola Oyeyemi, the command’s public relations officer, the child was kept in an uncompleted building as punishment for allegedly stealing N4,000. Little Promise was found after police received a tip-off from concerned neighbours.
It’s unclear for how long the girl had been in captivity, she was reportedly handed over to Stella Obasanjo Motherless Home. Her aunt, Chiamaka Okafor, is now on the run, while her husband, Sunday Okafor, was arrested. Police is currently investigating the incident and looking for the escapee.
