The famous Northern Nigeria Socio-cultural group, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) on Tuesday held its Annual General Assembly meeting in Kaduna to discuss mineral resources exploitation in the region.
The 2016 edition of the ACF General Assembly is also expected to discuss and evaluate strategies to adopt for improving on the success already recorded in the area of security in the North and Nigeria at large.
The forum, which is also the mouthpiece of Northern Nigeria, is to however to float a security summit on insurgency, kidnapping, cattle rustling and others.
In attendance at the meeting were, former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, AVM Mukhtar Mohammed, Senator Joseph Waku, former ACF Chairman, Alhaji Aliko Mohammed, Ambassador Marina Mohammed, former Federal Character Commission Chairman, Professor AbdulRahman Oba Abu, ACF Secretary General, Col. John Paul Ubah (Rtd), Former President Court of Appeal, Justice Mamman Nasir, Gen. John Shagaya and Managing Director of Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, Shettima Aji Ali among others.
The meeting which was Presided over by the Deputy Chairman BoT, AVM Mukhtar Mohammed is expected to discuss how to enhance solid minerals exploration in northern Nigeria.
Briefing the meeting on activities of the Forum in the last one year and projection for the next 365 days, Secretary General of the forum, Col. John Ubah said, ACF was on the top gear of leading the campaign for the exploration of solid minerals for the development of the region.
This was even as he disclosed that, the forum has been in close contact with an exploration firm to prepare a template of solid minerals deposit in the region.
According to him, “The forum has been in close contact with Messrs Bima Rocks and Minerals to prepare a template of Solid Minerals deposits in the North and to produce and launch a Master Chart which will be used to solicit the prompt action of Northern State Governors on solid minerals exploitation for the benefit of the region”.
On the Security Summit, ACF Secretary General said, the summit which is targeted at sensitizing stakeholders on the menace of insurgency, kidnapping, cattle rustling and others will hold before the end of 2016.
According to him, Organizing Committee of the summit had since on the 7th of August been inaugurated, with former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Abdullahi Adamu as its Chairman.
The general assembly which was still in session as at the time of filing this report is expected to come out with a communique at the end of meeting.
