Former Nigeria Vice President and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has said that the structure of the Federal government finances are not sustainable.

The Former Vice President who stated this while speaking as special Guest at the 20th Years anniversary of the creation of Gombe state in Gombe, “We need to renegotiate the federal structure to make us stronger and more united”.

He also said that, all tiers of government must wean themselves from the addiction of oil revenue. More power and resources must be devolved to the states,

His word, “for instance the FG should not retain the responsibility of directing, running schools, digging boreholes, constructing and maintaining roads, providing water or electricity or feeding school children”.

Alhaji Abubakar said that these are matters that should be devolved to the states with the accompanying resources hitherto expended on them by Federal Government and federal government should rather maintain national standards on these and support base that adhere to those standards

He further appreciates federal government for courageous effort to subdue the insurgents and bringing peace, adding that celebration could have been elaborate but for the insurgency in the region which he said would have been worst but for the intervention of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
