BANDITS KILL 9, INJURE MANY IN KADUNA COMMUNITY

Again, some bandits suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have invaded Makarau Jankasa Community in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing no fewer than nine people while scores sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Our correspondents learnt that the hoodlums stormed the community at about 5 pm on Sunday, shooting indiscriminately at anyone and anything at sight.

Scores of natives were reported to have fled their homes to other neighbouring communities as a result of the heavy gunshots.

This is coming less than 72 hours when a similar attack occurred in the same local government council where no fewer than nine villagers were killed at Warkan village while several houses were razed. That attack took place around 2 am when villagers were fast asleep.

According to a resident of the area, James Atung, the bandits in large numbers invaded the community around 5 pm “shooting sporadically”.

“When they came they were just shooting and some ran into the bush. It lasted for sometime before security operatives came and by then they have fled,” he added.

Atung who spoke to one of our correspondents on the telephone on Monday while confirming the attack, also said most of the villagers had fled their homes, calling on the government to put more effort into safeguarding the lives and property of the citizens.

He noted that the incessant attacks have forced the villagers to stay off the farm, adding the should the government failed to do something, there would be a food shortage.

When contacted for confirmation, the state Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige could not be reached.
