BATTLE FOR EDO GUBER TICKET BEGINS WEDNESDAY

The battle for the Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship ticket commences on Wednesday, when aspirants file out to collect the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.

Though the National Working Committee (NWC) had last week released the time table for the primaries, none of the aspirants was able to obtained the Nomination Forms, which costs N22.5 miilion.

One of the aspirants, who came to the APC National Secretariat in Abuja last week, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, said he only came to familiarize himself with the party secretariat, with the promise to obtain his forms this Wednesday after the Sallah break.

Among others expected to besiege the APC National Secretariat this week for the collection of forms are the incumbent governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki, former Deputy Governor, Pius Odubu and former Minister of State for Works, Engr Chris Ogiemwonyi.

The number of aspirants for the Edo State APC governorship ticket would not be on the high side but it is one primaries that many are waiting to see.

However, the APC Working Committee last week approved the Direct mode of Primaries for the selection of the governorship candidate. The mode, according to some party members was based on the fact that there are two factions of the State Executive of APC in the state.

But the state APC Executive led by Hon. Anslem Ojezua, which is loyal to the governor, has rejected the Direct primaries. The other State Executive faction is loyal to the APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who is alleged to be at loggerhead with the governor.

The APC, at its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in 2018 adopted three modes of primaries as provided in the party’s constitution.

The NEC resolved that the State Executive of the party and other stakeholders in the state were at liberty to agree and communicate to the NWC on the type of primaries to be adopted for the selection of a candidate for election in the state.
The three primaries provided for in the party’s Constitution are Direct, Indirect and Consensus.
