The people of Bilabiri Kingdom in Bayelsa State have urged the military to release their king, Paul Seide.

The monarch was arrested in connection with the killing of naval ratings in Agge, Ekeremor Local Government Area.

It was gathered that the monarch was arrested by the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Delta Safe (ODS).

Gunmen recently seized a dredger escorted by the operatives of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) and killed four ratings. The gunmen seized the dredger and abducted two Russians and an Indian.

Community Development Committee Chairman Mr Esau Darosha, in a statement, said an impostor parading himself as the leader of Bilabiri community was blackmailing the king.

The statement, which was co-signed by the Deputy Highness, Chief Isaiah Couple, said the king’s rival was doing everything to indict him, including supplying false and baseless information to malign the king.

The statement urged military authorities to disregard allegations against the king.

It reads: “…the Bilabiri Kingdom has only one monarch, King Paul Brake-ere Seide, who is a second class traditional ruler and is gazetted by the government and recognised by law.

“Therefore, anyone parading himself or acting as the king of Bilabiri Kingdom is an impersonator and should be treated as such.

“We call on security agencies, particularly the military, to investigate the veracity of information and identify anyone claiming to be the leader of Bilabiri Kingdom.

“We assure the military of maximum cooperation to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of this crime.

“We also restate our cordial relationship with the military and other security agencies.”
