In a symbolic and strategic move to strengthen the bridge between governance and public perception, the Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Cross River State Chapter, Mr. Ben Okache, led esteemed delegation on a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Calabar South Local Government Council, Pst. Hon. Patrick Archibong.
Accompanied by respected institute members, Dr. Icha Mboto and Nkese Eneyo, Mr. Okache expressed the Institute’s desire to foster deeper collaboration between government institutions and the public through effective communication and responsible public relations. The visit was not just a formal courtesy—it was a call to action.
At the heart of their discussion was the forthcoming National Conference of the NIPR slated for Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The delegation revealed that the Governor had graciously approved the participation of 150 members from the state. However, they noted that logistical and financial support was needed, particularly to enable the participation of the Council’s Press Secretary, who is also a member of the Institute. A formal request for assistance had been tendered, and they hoped for a positive response.
In a significant development, Mr. Okache who also happened to be the Deputy Editor-in- Chief of the Daily Info News Bulletin, introduced the Bulletin as a powerful communication tool of Cross River State government, designed to enhance the activities of the government with focus on transparency and visibility. He assured the chairman that the Council would receive priority publicity, promising a mutually beneficial relationship that would spotlight the work of the local government.
Pastor Hon. Archibong, known for his media-friendly leadership, welcomed the delegation warmly and acknowledged the crucial role of the NIPR in shaping public trust. The visit ended on a hopeful note, with both parties agreeing that good governance must walk hand-in-hand with good public relations.
