Ahead of the 2019 game plan for the general election, Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu yesterday prayed for President Muhammed Buhari to successfully complete his term in good health, even as he vowed to work against any corrupt individual from leading the country.
The revered monarch, who insisted he was ready to work against an individual, who unlawfully engaged in wealth acquisition for three years under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, said not again would a corrupt man become Nigeria’s President.
The monarch, who also lauded President Buhari and the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode’s giant development strides, prayed for the successful tenure of both leaders.
Aside amassing wealth under the Obasanjo-led administration, Akiolu also accused a certain politician of turning many companies to his own in order to come back to be the President of this country again.
He said: “I insist that there is no era for somebody who spent the first three years of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s government making money and turning many companies to his own to come back to be the President of this country again.
I mean it and I mean it and by God’s grace, it shall be so.” Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Foreign Matters and Diaspora, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said that corruption would continue to thrive in the country as long as Nigerians continue to celebrate convicted corrupt politicians, saying Nigerians were still in the habit of praising and hailing individuals convicted for corruption.
Meanwhile, Akiolu, commended Governor Ambode for the giant strides in the state, saying that the governor had not only initiated many projects which were either completed or ongoing but also ensured that quality of projects was not compromised.
Akiolu said: “Just recently, we heard the comments of a retired Chief of Army Officer and even a PDP chieftain, Chief Bode George on the performance of the governor.
The former Chief of Army Staff who was a Quantity Surveyor told me that on his way to Ijebu Ode, when he saw the quality of work being done in Epe axis, he had no doubt that Governor Ambode was doing a lot and the quality of job done was also commendable.”
