Two persons, Aliyu Hassan, 28, and Abdullahi Hassan, 30, both of Sabon Gidan, via Jebba in Miro local government area of Kwara State who allegedly conspired and killed their friend over the sum of N3,000 have been remanded at the Federal Prison Yard, Ilorin.
The order to remand the accused was made by an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court before which they appeared on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy ad culpable homicide, contrary to Sections 97 and 221 of Penal Code Law.
The accused were arrested following a complaint on December 19, 2018 at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Banni, Kwara State by Buba Mohammed of Kosa Fulani Camp, via Aderan, Kwara State that the accused killed his younger brother, Muhmmed Umar.
According to the complainant, Hassan (first accused) invited the deceased to come and collect the sum of N3,000 he (accused) was owing him and since then he never returned.
But, when a search party was organised, his lifeless body was found in a bush near the residence of the accused, while the deceased’s two wrists and throat were severed.
The complainant stated further that when the accused sighted the family of the deceased coming to their residence both of them took to their heels but were apprehended.
When the accused were questioned over the death of Mohammed, they could not give satisfactory account of what led to the death of the deceased.
The Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that during the course of investigation at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin it was revealed that Hassan (first accused) deceived the deceased to come and collect the money he was owing him before he connived with the second accused to attack the deceased by gruesomely stabbing him him to death.
The prosecutor, Roda Kayode informed the court that the alleged offence committed by the accused were capital in nature and not ordinarily bailable.
She, therefore, objected bail of the accused and urged the court to remand the accused in prison custody pending the outcome of investigation.
The magistrate, Mrs. Jumoke Bello, who declined to take the plea of the accused for lack of jurisdiction to try the matter, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison Yard, Ilorin until the next adjourned date.
