CROSS RIVER GOVERNOR, OTU MARKS TWO YEARS IN OFFICE IN STYLE WITH PEOPLE -CENTRED PROJECTS

- Commissions ‘People First’ development projects

BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Edet Otu has marked two years anniversary in office, commissioning several development projects, including the re-modelled Governor’s Office Complex, under his ‘Peoples First’ agenda administration.
This is as he also commissioned a 2.8 kilometers of road network within Calabar, the State capital. Other road links, hitherto in serious state of neglect and dilapidation, have equally been repaired, with residents along Etinyin Abasi Street as well as popular Uwanse and Atamunu communities as the projects’ beneficiaries.
Speaking while commissioning the new-look Complex, Governor Otu said the face-lift was meant to create a rapid and digitalized smart work environment required for the 21st century results oriented approach in strategic decision making for good governance and effective service delivery.
Contract for the remodelled Governor’s Office was awarded in August 2023, about three months after Governor Otu took over the reins of power on May 29, 2023.
He said to boost workers’ morale, the seat of decision making in the state had to be upgraded and made conducive as a befitting edifice and a pride to the Cross River people.
According to him, two years down the line, the edifice, now fitted with world class furnitures and facilities, including high-tech internet and security devices, is positioned to further encourage high-standard service delivery among the work force.
Also commending the State House of Assembly (CRSHA) for approving that the College of Education in Akamkpa Local Government Area, be converted to a University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Prince Otu said the development, which increases the number of State-owned tertiary institution to two, is expected to further strengthen the government’s drive to position Cross River on the path of sustainable socio-economic growth and development.
A major highlight of the two years anniversary celebration was the governor’s formal announcement of his intention to seek a second term and continue in office till year 2031.
