CULTISTS KILL 8 IN RIVERS COMMUNITY

SUSPECTED cultists have reportedly invaded Mgbuodohia community, Rumuolumeni clan, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers killing about eight persons.

Information has it that a cult group invaded the community on the early hours of Sunday in search of their rivals.

Our correspondent gathered that the hoodlums, who invaded the community, moved from house to house in search of rival cultists in the area during which they killed eight of their targets.

Villagers and residents have deserted the community for fear of their lives as the development caused serious panic in the area.

Chairman of Rumuolumeni Community Development Committee, CDC, Mr Sunny Odum, while confirming the attack, expressed sadness over the incident.

He said that over eight persons died during the attack in the community, describing it as strange.

Odum, however, assured residents not to panic over the incident, but to go about their normal businesses as security operatives would with the help of the community track down the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to book.

Odum stated: “This is what we saw this morning. It is a cult related matter. I want to assure the residents here that there is no cause for alarm.

“We have called on residents of the place to remain peaceful because the police and army are on the ground. As for our festival that we will be having, it will still hold.”

The report could not be confirmed as at the time of this report as the Rivers State Police Command was yet to answer calls or respond to text messages sent to Nnamdi Omoni the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO of the command.
