BY GRACE ANYANWU, ABUJA – Barring unforeseen circumstances, the Supreme Court of Nigeria has scheduled to entertain an application for a possible review of its judgment on the Imo Governorship tussle for Tuesday, February 16, 2020.
Former Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State approached the apex court for a review of its judgment based on what he considers were some fundamental flaws in law in addition to other matters arising thereof.
The Supreme Court ruling on the Imo which sacked former Governor Emeka Ihediaoha and his deputy Hon. Gerald Irona on January 14, 2020 was seen by some major critical stakeholders in Nigeria and international organisations as a miscarriage of justice, declaring that the ruling of the apex court failed to give consideration to legality but concerned more with technicalities, adding that the Courts ruling also contradicted precedencies in law set by the same court.
The Supreme Court of Nigeria declared Senator Hope Uzodinma, former Governor Ihedioha insists was not a candidate of any political party but merely succeeded in deceiving the justices of the Supreme Court with unlawful 388 polling Units’ results which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not record in 2019 general elections.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on which platform Hon. Ihedioha won the governorship election, protested vehemently over the Supreme Court ruling which it described as terrible miscarriage of justice that should not be allowed to stand thus urged the apex court to review its ruling.
