DAVIDO GETS MAJOR APPOINTMENT FROM OSUN STATE GOVERNMENT
The Osun State Government has announced the appointment of popular Afrobeats artiste David Adeleke, known globally as Davido, as the chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund.
According to the government, the new appointment aims to raise funds and strengthen efforts to revive and develop the state’s sports sector.
The government also reaffirmed its promise to complete the ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium. It assured that once completed, the upgraded facility would meet international and Olympic standards, making it capable of hosting both national and global sporting event.
Confirming the appointment, the state’s Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, said the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke remains dedicated to building a vibrant sports culture and transforming Osun into a hub for athletic excellence.
He said, “Ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards — a project that will be completed in the shortest possible time.”
Adewusi further revealed that the government was in the advanced stages of establishing the Osun State Sports Commission, which would serve as the central body for sports management, development, and policy execution.
He added, “Plans are in advanced stages towards the establishment of the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as a central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation. Introduction of a Sports Trust Fund to attract support from sports philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable sports financing and development.”
On Davido’s role, the deputy governor explained that the music star quickly accepted the offer to head the Sports Trust Fund.
“Davido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate in accepting the appointment. His intervention would attract funds that would impact Osun sports positively,” he said.
The initiative is expected to promote youth engagement, talent development, and create opportunities for Osun’s sportsmen and women to compete at higher levels.
