The announcement was made on Tuesday evening at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in the presence of national and state leaders of the Accord Party.
He said, “I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6th, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This was after weeks of consultation and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders.”
He added that residents of Osun State were aware of the reasons behind the decision, stressing that the Accord Party’s welfarist ideology aligns with his administration’s focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.
Governor Adeleke expressed confidence that the Accord Party would emerge victorious in the August 2026 gubernatorial election.
“I welcome our party leaders into the Osun State Government House. You are now part of us, as I am also now part of you. We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large.”
Following his defection to the party, Adeleke on Wednesday emerged as the candidate of the party for the 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
The governor, who was the sole contestant in the party’s primary election held at the Oasis Event Centre, Osogbo, scored 145 votes to become the party’s flag bearer.
