DAVIDO SETS SIGHT ON ACTING, SAYS HE WANTS TO PLAY ROLE OF TAXI DRIVER

‘I want to play the role of taxi driver’ — Davido eyes movie debut

Afrobeats star Davido has expressed interest in acting, saying he would like to take on an unexpected role such as playing a taxi driver.

Speaking during a panel at the 14th Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), he also revealed plans to venture into film production in the coming years.

“In the coming years, I definitely want to get involved in producing movies. My brother was saying he’s going to give me a role,” he said.

He added that he is looking for a surprising character to portray. “I need a role, I want to do something that would shock people, like playing a taxi driver, something out of the blue.”

Davido said his interest extends beyond acting, noting that he hopes to work on films and series drawn from real-life stories while helping to support other creatives.

“I definitely want to get involved in movies. Even in America, a lot of musicians produce films and series about their lives.

“When I was younger, I used to watch series based on people’s real lives. I want to do things like that too, and also help get funding for creatives.”

Davido had previously spoken about branching into film earlier this year.

Other Nigerian musicians have also moved into filmmaking, including Burna Boy, whose co-produced pan-African thriller 3 Cold Dishes screened at the festival.
