The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday disclosed before a Lagos State High Court that the commission was ready to call 20 witnesses to testify against the embattled National Industrial Court Judge, Justice Agbadu Fishim.
Justice Fishim, who was alleged to have collected N3.5m bribe from lawyers, was arraigned on a 19-count charge before Justice Raliat Adebiyi.
The anti-graft agency, in the charge, alleged that Justice Fishim received an aggregate of N3.5m from seven Senior Advocates of Nigeria, a Lagos-based lawyer and a law firm, between 2013 and 2015.
It said the money was paid into the judge’s First Bank account with number – 3008199491.
At Friday’s proceeding, the EFCC presented its first witness, Akhanolu Solomon, a forensic officer in the bank, who narrated how SANs paid various sums of money into the account of Justice Fishim.
Led in evidence by the EFCC prosecutor, Mr. Wahab Shittu, the witness said, “On October 13, 2016, we received a letter from the EFCC, requesting for the mandate cards, account opening package, statements of account from 2012 till date, Bank Verification Number and other information that would assist the commission in its investigation of the following account numbers – 3008199491, 2006900216, 0009508696 – with the account name – Mr. Agbadu Fishim James.
“On November 17, 2016, we availed the commission of all the relevant documents as required with certification of identification that the documents were generated from the inflow and outflow of customers from the computer of FBN,” he said.
The judge, according to the EFCC, allegedly received a total of N1.15m from Chief Felix Fagbohungbe (SAN) between December 5, 2013, and February 26, 2015.
He allegedly received a total of N700,000 in tranches from Paul Usoro (SAN) between August 5, 2014, and March 26, 2015.
