EX GOV AKPABIO SPEAKS ON ALLEGATION OF BRIBING JUDGES IN 2015 TO SECURE VICTORY FOR PDP

A former governor of Akwa Ibom State and Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, has denied bribing Supreme Court justices to influence their 2016_10largeimg11_oct_2016_225202541judgment on 2015 Akwa Ibom governorship election which eventually went in favour of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The recent clampdown on some judges by the Department of ‎State Services (DSS), over corruption allegations, had sparked off rumours linking Akpabio to one of the bribery cases.

But in a statement issued by‎ his special assistant on media, Anietie Ekong, Akpabio described the rumours as baseless, saying that they were the handiwork of the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the All ‎Progressives Congress (APC) to tarnish his reputation.
“We wish to state most emphatically that Senator Godswill Akpabio is no way involved‎ in the alleged bribery of Supreme Court justices,” the statement said.
It also condemned the APC in Akwa Ibom for celebrating the ordeals of one of the arrested Supreme Court justices, Justice Inyang Okoro, an indigene of the state, without waiting for the DSS to conclude its investigations
