FG MUST TAX CHURCHES TO GENERATE REVENUE TO TAKE CARE OF THE POOR- ABUJA POLITICIAN, BUNMI JEGEDE

Abuja businesswoman and APC top notcher, Bunmi Jegde has advised the Federal government to tax churches in order to generate revenue to take care of the poor in our society.

Bunmi Jegede who accused many church pastors of living on the sweat of their congregation believe that taxing the church, especially Pentecostal churches is one way the government could shore up its revenue sources especially now that the revenue base of the government is lean.

She disagrees with the situation in which worshippers troop to churches and pay tithes to pastors who end up buying private jets and building schools where the children of the same worshippers cannot attend. According to her, the time has come for the society to rise up against the role of the Pentecostal churches in the society. Many of them now serve to destroy Christian home which they were supposed to be building.

According to the businesswoman  who is the daughter of an Anglican Church Reverend, financial demands by the churches have affected the framework and finances of many families as the churches preach instant miracles  while they collect money from members in forms of tithes and give them nothing in return.

Alternatively, she suggests that tithes should be shared equally between the church and the government so that the government would be able to raise money to help the poor and the needy by providing loans and other incentives for their well-being. She also believes that money realized from such could also help in providing infrastructures.
