An Assistant Superintendent of Police serving under the Aideyan Division was on Wednesday hospitalized after he inhaled smoke while attempting to put out fire that gutted the palatial residence of the lawmaker representing Ovia Constituency in the House of Representatives, Barr. Omosede Igbinedion.
The police man whose identity could not be ascertain was rushed to the hospital in a police hikux van.
It was learnt that the building was given to Omosede as a wedding gift from her father, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom.
Some of her staff in the house said the fire started from her bed room which was locked.
The policeman had climbed a ladder to use fire extinguishers to stop the fire from spreading but the thick smoke bellowing from the building prevented him.
It was the timely intervention of the Edo Fire Service that stopped the fire from spreading.
The fire service men later put out the fire.
Chief Igbinedion and his wife, Lady Sherry were at the scene and looked worried.
Barrister Omosede who was said to have gone for campaigns later arrived.
