FIRE RAZES PART OF RIVERS STATE GOVERNMENT SECRETARIAT

A portion of the Rivers State Government Secretariat in Port Harcourt has been engulfed by fire.

The cause of the blaze was not immediately established, but reports indicate that the affected wing is home to the Rivers State Pension Board.

Honour Sirawoo, the permanent secretary in the ministry of information, confirmed the incident.

According to him, fire service teams from both the state and the Federal Fire Service (FFS) are on ground battling to contain the inferno.

He further explained that it is still uncertain whether there were any casualties from the incident.

The fire outbreak comes weeks after Governor Siminalayi Fubara dissolved the Pensions Board set up by Ibok-Ete Ibas, the immediate past sole administrator, on September 12.

Following the dissolution, the governor directed the office of the accountant-general to assume the responsibilities of the board until a new one is constituted.
