GOSA MARKET TRADERS BLOCK ABUJA AIRPORT ROAD AGAIN, DESTROY VEHICLES

For the second day, Gosa Market traders blocked the Airport Road around the popular market intersection today. They had earlier done same on Saturday.

Some traders on Monday blocked a section of the Abuja airport expressway over the planned demolition of the Gosa market.

Gosa is about 20 minutes drive to the airport. The market serves the needs of residents in areas located on the airport road.

Speaking with TheCable, a motorist who simply identified himself as Abu said he was in the gridlock for over three hours.

Security officers at the scene

Abu said some hoodlums also used the gridlock as an opportunity to extort money from motorists. He said they damaged the cars of those who did not cooperate.

“Some of the boys who tried to extort money from a driver broke the rear mirror and some windscreen,” he said.

TheCable learnt that a similar incident occurred on Saturday after officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) went to the market.

Security operatives had been deployed in the scene as of the time of filing this report.
