Police have arrested a suspected kidnapper, Abiodun Joshua, for allegedly trying to abduct a businesswoman, Mrs. Oseni Omolewa, at Igbosere area of Lagos Island.
The businesswoman was rescued by police detectives attached to Lion Building Police Division from the suspected kidnap syndicate which specialised in threatening members of the public with text message of kidnap, with the aim to extort them.
Luck, according to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dolapo Badmos, ran out on Joshua after he demanded N37 million from the woman to prevent her from being kidnapped.
Badmos said on October 1, about 11:20p.m., the victim, who resides on Igbosere Road, Lagos Island, reported at Lion Building Division that she had been receiving telephone calls from someone who claimed to be a kidnapper. She said:
“The caller told her to deposit N37 million into an account number to prevent her from being kidnapped and her children.”
