HOPE UZODINMA SIGNATURE PROJECT, A CONFERENCE CENTRE COMMISSIONED BY TINUBU A MONTH AGO CAVES IN

A video currently making rounds on social media has captured the shocking moment the roof of the Imo International Conference Centre (IICC) in Owerri collapsed, barely weeks after it was inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu on September 30, 2025.
The state-of-the-art IICC in Owerri had been widely celebrated as one of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s legacy projects, reportedly suffered a sudden structural failure, leaving many stunned and raising fresh questions about the quality of construction and project supervision.
In the viral clip, a man can be heard exclaiming in disbelief as the roof gives way, with debris crashing down from the newly commissioned structure. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far, though the extent of the damage on the IICC in Owerri remains unclear.

The collapse has triggered outrage online, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough investigation into the project’s execution and the contractors responsible. Critics argue that such an incident, so soon after the presidential commissioning, underline the deepening issues of poor infrastructure quality and corruption in public projects.
As of press time, neither the Imo State Government nor the contractors involved have issued an official statement regarding the incident.
