HOW ONDO UNIVERSITY REGISTRAR WAS ASSASSINATED 6 MONTHS APPOINTMENT, TWO MEN FORCED UNKNOWN SUBSTANCE INTO HIS MOUTH AND DISAPPEARED- POLICE

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed that Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo City, was assassinated, sending shockwaves through the academic community and plunging the institution into mourning.

Mr. Adeniran was found dead in his residence in Ondo City during the early hours of Thursday, July 17, 2025. While the university initially described the incident as a “sudden death,” fresh revelations from the police suggest foul play, with officers now treating the case as a targeted assassination.

Police Describe Harrowing Circumstances Surrounding Death

Speaking on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that the tragic incident was reported at the Fanibi Police Division. He noted that evidence gathered so far indicates that Adeniran’s death was not natural.

“I can confirm that the man was killed. According to the report at my disposal, two unidentified men reportedly emerged from a bush and forced a substance into the mouth of another person—believed to be the deceased,” SP Ayanlade stated.

He added that while the precise location and motive remain unclear, investigators are following critical leads. The police urged members of the public with useful information to assist with the investigation, assuring that all necessary steps would be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.

UNIMED Community in Shock

The late registrar, who only assumed office as UNIMED’s third substantive registrar on January 6, 2025, was highly regarded within the institution for his diligence and professionalism.

In a statement released by the university’s Head of Media and Protocol, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, the institution expressed deep grief over the unexpected loss.

“The devastating news of the registrar’s death has thrown the university into mourning. It was a huge shock to all of us, especially since he was at his duty post just days earlier on Monday, July 14, 2025,” the statement read.

UNIMED further acknowledged that while the police investigation is ongoing, the institution is cooperating fully with security agencies and awaiting official autopsy results to determine the exact cause of death.

Tributes Pour In for Late Registrar

Reacting to the tragedy, the university’s Head of Human Resources, Mr. M.A. Akinkuade, described Mr. Adeniran as a deeply committed administrator whose contributions to UNIMED would not be forgotten.

“He was a hardworking and dedicated staff member whose positive impact on the university’s growth will remain in our hearts,” Akinkuade said.
“We extend our condolences to his family, friends, and all who are mourning this painful loss. May the Almighty grant them strength, and may his soul rest in perfect peace.”

Calls for Justice and Security

The incident has sparked concern among academics, staff unions, and civil society groups in Ondo State who are calling for swift and transparent investigations into what many have described as an alarming attack on a respected figure in public service.

Many have also raised concerns about the growing insecurity in residential areas within the city and have urged the government to intensify security patrols and surveillance.

As the investigation continues, the UNIMED community remains gripped by sorrow, hoping for answers and justice for the slain registrar.
