UNBELIEVABLE? But that was the scenario in Sabon lugbe area of Abuja yesterday when under heavy rain, a caterpillar believed to have been sent in by a serving minister who is very influential and untouchable in the Buhari government demolished the fence of a property the minister has been trying to acquire by force.
Eye witness accounts claimed that the minister himself was first sighted at the undeveloped plot around 8:00pm in the night by the man moulding blocks at the site, after which he raised an alarm by calling the owners of the plot.
Shortly after the minister left, four heavily armed mobile policemen including a Superintendent of Police came with a bulldozer to start pulling down the fence constructed by the owner of the plot. This was around 9.30pm in the night. Meanwhile it was raining.
The noise generated by the security men around attracted ample crowd many of who wondered why the demolition had to take place in the night and with Mobile policemen.
The Lugbe Police station was subsequently informed and they invited the policemen in question over their mission at such an odd hour and also to inquire why the Lugbe Police was not informed.
It was at that point that the Superintendent of Police declared that they were sent by someone above. All efforts to make him name the person proved abortive. Feelers from the man who raised the alarm indicated that the Minister was behind the move as he had tried to no avail to take the property with AGIS and relevant authorities telling him that the land has been given out to a developer.
Subsequently, the police in Lugbe gave the Superintendent officer till Monday to bring in the owner of the plots as well as his documents before they can be allowed to continue work at the site
