The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has shared an image of the slain Brigadier General Mohammed Uba with the global Islamic State body of terrorists, confirming his death, FIJ can report.
On Thursday, the Islamic State, the umbrella body for terror sects like the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and ISWAP, published Issue 522 of its Al-Naba newspaper.
FIJ has made the editorial decision not to attach a copy of the terrorists’ paper or a link to the website.
The eight-page downloadable PDF file features recent gruesome killings by member sects all over the world. The text is Arabic.
On its cover page is an image of Uba’s lifeless body. This image again appears on page four of the newspaper.
FIJ confirmed from sources that the publication went live at 3:30 pm WAT.
In the image FIJ censored, Uba can be seen with a bullet wound on his leg and blood flowing from beside his head.
The sect also published a WhatsApp chat screenshot taken from Uba’s phone, proving they have access to his personal communication with the military and other persons.
The sect also claimed that they hit the Damboa Brigade Headquarters in Borno on Tuesday, and shared a picture of the beheading of a man in Gorobatcha, Borno.
BACKGROUND
FIJ earlier reported how Uba and his men were in a convoy with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) near Sabon Gari in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday when members of the terrorist sect opened fire on them at about 5 pm.
Following the incident, the military issued a statement to discredit reports of Uba’s abduction. One of the earliest reports was published by HumAngle.
On Saturday, Appolonis Anele, the army’s director of public relations, issued a statement denying the abduction.
This statement read in part, “The Army Headquarters also wishes to debunk the fake narrative going round some media platforms online alleging the abduction of the Brigade Commander. The general public is hereby advised to disregard the fake news regarding the incident while praying for the continuous success of our gallant service men and women.”
Uba is the highest-ranked military personnel the ISWAP has abducted since it began its reign of terror.
