An angry and jealous middle-aged man, identified simply as Ochuku, has reportedly killed his wife’s lover after finding out that his wife has been cheating on him since they got married. The wife, Rose, is being detained in police custody.
Policemen from Ugborikoko Police Station in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State arrested Rose after her husband allegedly stabbed and killed her lover, Mr. Robinson Otuke. When contacted on the telephone, the Divisional Police Officer of Ugborikoko Police Station, Mr. Yahaya Usman, confirmed the incident.
Usman said though he was aware of the case, he was yet to be fully briefed on the matter. But a witness, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said trouble started when Ochuku, an electrician, began suspecting his wife of having an extramarital affair.
The killing, which occurred on Emebiren Street, Okumagba Layout, Warri, created panic among residents as those living in the compound fled for fear of being arrested. Another source said Otuke, who was Rose’s boyfriend before she got married, refused to cut ties with her and was still having illicit affairs with her after marriage.
It was learnt that Ochuko, who had been monitoring Rose on account of her sexual escapades, had warned the deceased several times to leave his wife. According to one account, the jealous husband beat up his wife and forced her to take him to her lover, a few metres from their home where he stabbed and killed the man in his room.
But another account said the suspect bundled his wife and children into his Toyota Corolla car, drove to Otuke’s house, killed him in the presence of Rose, returned home with his children, picked a few belongings and disappeared.
It was also learnt that when the relatives of the deceased got wind of what had happened to Otuke, they mobilised to Ochuko’s house, thinking he was still there. But when they found out that the man had fled, they destroyed his property and left.
At press time, the state Police Public Relations Office (PPRO), SP Celestina Kalu, did not pick her calls to confirm the story.
