Altercation: JSS3 Student Allegedly Kills Teacher Over Seized Cap in Benue
A tragic incident has shocked the community of Oju Local Government Area in Benue State, where a 16-year-old Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3) student, Friday Ogamude, allegedly beat his teacher, Mr. Oyibe Oyibe, to death on Thursday, July 10, 2025. The altercation, which took place at UBE Oju Centre, reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a school cap confiscated by the 35-year-old teacher in May 2025.
According to eyewitnesses, the confrontation began when Ogamude approached Mr. Oyibe to demand the return of his cap. The discussion quickly escalated into a heated exchange, leading to a physical altercation. During the scuffle, the student allegedly struck the teacher, causing him to collapse on the spot. Mr. Oyibe was immediately rushed to Amara Hospital in Oju, but medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival. His body has been deposited at the General Hospital, Oju, for an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.
The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Friday Ogamude and condemned the incident, assuring the public that a thorough investigation is underway to ensure justice is served. “This is a tragic and unacceptable act,” a police spokesperson stated. “We are committed to uncovering the full details of this incident and ensuring that those responsible face the consequences.”
