The Ishola Balogun- Fulani-led All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to urgently withdraw the list of National Assembly candidates of the party from the state published by the commission last week.

INEC had in its official release of candidates’ names for the February 6, 2018 election, published the names of candidates from the APC faction backed by the national leadership of the party and inserted the words ‘Court Order’ against such names.

But the Balogun-Fulani faction, in a letter addressed to the Chairman, INEC, through its counsel, Yusuf O. Ali & Co., and dated January 21, 2019, charged INEC to publish the names of the candidates submitted by it in line with the judgement of Kwara State High Court, which upheld the validity of the group as authentic executive committee members of the APC.

The letter noted that doing so was imperative to sanitise the processes associated with the publication of the names of eligible candidates “by restoring credibility and legality to the commission in the spirit of rule of law.”

Copies of the letter were also sent to the European Union and the Socio-Economic Right and Accountability Project (SERAP)
