KWARA DISTRICT HEAD, SONS CHARGED TO COURT FOR AIDING KIDNAPPERS,

The police in Kwara State have arraigned a district head and his two sons for allegedly assisting kidnappers who were killed in a gun duel last week while sharing ransom inside a forest.

They were dragged before an Ilorin magistrate court on a two-count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping contrary to sections 2 and 1 of Kwara State (Prohibition) of kidnapping law 2010.

According to the Police First Information Report, the suspects, who were killed in Shao, Moro Local Government Area of the state, conspired with the deceased and others at large to kidnap their victims.

“On receipt of the information, the police alongside the vigilante and local hunters combed the bush, which made the kidnappers open fire when they sighted the operatives.

“During the exchange of fire, two suspects sustained gun injuries and were taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital where they were confirmed dead.

“While searching the forest, one single barrel gun and the sum of N177,500 among other incriminating items were recovered,” the charge sheet read.

The Prosecutor, ASP Samuel Mayowa, urged the court to remand the defendants pending the outcome of further investigation.

Magistrate Adam Mohammed thereafter ordered the first and second defendants to be remanded at the federal correctional centre.

He also ruled that the third defendant being a minor should be kept at the borstal facility in Ilorin pending the arrival of legal advice from the office of the Attorney General of the state.

The case was adjourned to October 4th, 2022 for further mention.
