Police in Ogun State have arrested a 28-year-old man, Oni Olohunwa, for allegedly stabbing his friend to death.
The deceased friend, Baraka Taiwo, was reportedly drunk at the time he was stabbed at a party.
New Telegraph gathered that argument ensued between the duo after which the suspect brought out a knife and stabbed the deceased in the chest and back.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement made available to our correspondent in Abeokuta.
Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, stated that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu for post mortem examination.
According to the police spokesman, the suspect was apprehended for culpable homicide.
He said, “The suspect was arrested on Sunday 5th of May 2019 following a report by one Wasiu Raheem who took the injured victim to Ogijo Police Station and reported that the suspect and the victim were both attending a party, but the victim got drunk and started misbehaving.
“While the suspect was trying to caution him, an argument ensued between them and the suspect brought out a knife with which he stabbed the deceased in the chest and back.
“On the strength of the report, the DPO Ogijo Division, CSP Baba Muhammed, quickly detailed his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.
“The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but died while receiving treatment. His corpse has been deposited at OOUTH Sagamu for post mortem examination.”
Oyeyemi said the state Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
