Unidentified number of persons have been burnt to death in a tanker explosion in Rivers State.

The victims were feared killed following the explosion of a tanker loaded with fuel at the Eleme section of the East-West Road in the States.

Vanguard gathered that a tanker laden with petroleum products exploded around 9:45pm and affected other vehicles in a traffic queue.

The incident happened adjacent to the Indorama Petrochemical Company located along the Akpojo-Onne axis of the East-West Road, as road leading to some critical national assets.

A source: “We heard two very loud sounds some minutes ago, and people were shouting. A tanker explodes and went afflain.

“The sound came from the Petro-Chemical company area. So when I came out, I saw a thick smoke with fire from a distance.”
