Three weeks after their mysterious disappearance sparked panic and protests among students and families, the lifeless bodies of two undergraduates of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), have been discovered in a forest near the Ondo-Ekiti border.
The victims—Andrel Eloho Okah, a 200-level student of History and International Studies, and John Friday Abba, a 200-level student of Economics, Faculty of Agriculture—had been reported missing since mid-June.
Their sudden disappearance left friends, classmates, and the AAUA community in anguish, as desperate efforts to locate them yielded no results for weeks.
“For over two weeks now, the two of them have been missing from school and academic activities. We searched everywhere but couldn’t find them. Their phones have been unreachable, and no one has any information about their whereabouts,”
— said Ajibola, a coursemate of one of the deceased, expressing frustration over the lack of progress in the search.
“They were very close friends. We don’t know if this is a case of kidnapping or something else. We reported to the school and police, but all we were told was to calm down. Nothing tangible was done.”
Final Discovery in the Bush
The heartbreaking discovery was confirmed on Sunday by security operatives who located the decomposing corpses of the students in a dense bush at a remote border town between Akoko (Ondo State) and Ekiti State.
A security source, who pleaded anonymity, said the students appeared to have been murdered by suspected abductors.
“It is sad to inform you that the two missing AAUA students have been killed. Their corpses have now been located. Our men are on the way to recover the remains,” the source revealed.
The cause and circumstances of the deaths remain unclear as of press time. Friends and family are now calling for a full-scale investigation and justice for the slain students.
Police Stay Tight-Lipped
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ondo State, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he was aware of the incident and would provide a formal update after ongoing procedures are concluded.
